Animated opening titles for a special tour of Italy
For the first edition of Extra Tour, we created an animated opening sequence for a series of live events across Italy, celebrating the 20th anniversary of Corpse Bride with special guest Carlos Grangel. The visual world, illustrated by Gianluca Folì, pays tribute to the film’s dark charm, blending gothic elegance with a theatrical touch to set the tone for the celebration.
The opening sequence was born from a traditionally drawn illustration not originally conceived for animation. To bring it to life, we first reinterpreted the image in digital format, adapting it for movement. The animation combines cut-out techniques with frame-by-frame sequences, creating a handcrafted yet contemporary feel. We also integrated 3D animation for the butterflies, allowing for greater depth and efficiency within a tight production timeline.
Conceived as a travelling showcase for the art of visual storytelling, Extra Tour brings together international talents and audiences through talks, screenings and creative encounters. Edition 2025 was entirely dedicated to the imaginative legacy of Corpse Bride, with Grangel offering a rare behind the scenes look at his design workflow and creative journey.
We joined the final talk to present our animated piece and our work, alongside other animation studios, in a conversation about character design and its crucial role in animation and visual narratives.
